Pep Talk

Have you ever felt stuck in a situation or a phase of your life where you feel as though you can’t move out no matter how hard you try? It’s like your mind gets worn out and frustrated just trying every second to be mentally strong and optimistic, hoping desperately that it is just a phase and soon this feeling will be over and you will wake up to a better day.

If you are not careful, the domino effect kicks in where your mind is so bogged down, it seems like your body energy is too and you feel sick even when you’re not. You are miserable around family and friends who did not upset you to begin with and you allow your mind to sink deeper and deeper awaiting your doom.

You may even feel as though you might as well get comfortable with this feeling of sadness and frustration as there seems to be no way out. Seems like your life keeps going around in circles because after you feel better for a while you always managed to come back to the same place mentally.

I once saw a post-it-note on my colleague’s desk, it read; the same old thinking equals the same old results. I repeated these words about two dozen times and sincerely thought about what it was saying to me. It was like that note was left there on purpose just so I would see it. It was like an answer to a desperate prayer for help.

Then one night as a laid awake in bed, it suddenly dawned on me that life is filled with both pleasant and unpleasant situations, and that’s just life and that’s how it will always be, no doubt. How you deal with them determines if your life is going around in circles producing the same old results from your same old thinking.

If you decide to take the same old outlook on every unpleasant situation then that’s when the burdensome feeling of overwhelming sadness and doom comes tumbling down on you. You must take a deep breath and decide each time that, this is the situation and believe it or not it is for a grand purpose in my life.

It is here to make me stronger; it is a test of my inner strength and another obstacle I must overcome to make it to the light at the end of the tunnel. Tell yourself; “of course, this too shall pass”. As you do this in getting your mind set on making it, though you will find yourself diving head on in the present situation, grabbing the bull by the horn and saying “let’s ride, because I’m confident I’m going to beat this”.

It takes much strength to say this to yourself but this strength is what you were born with and absolutely no one can take it away from you. You just need to muster up the courage to believe it, say it and do it!

The longest journey begins with first step they say, but you must also remember every journey has an expiry date, it doesn’t last forever!
