Happy at Work

Your pay bump may probably be the reason for your contentment with your job, but is it the only reason that makes you happy? Bigger salary, nicer boss, a more flexible schedule may make you bounce into the office on Monday mornings. But…let’s face it. This may not be 100% of your happiness you find with your job. The rest is up to you!

Happiness and work don’t usually go hand in hand. But when it comes to making yourself happy, know what makes you happy. Once you discover it, everything else tends to fall into place. Check out these simple things that can make you happy at work.

Smile

Smile, It Doesn’t Cost Anything

Indeed, a smile never costs anybody anything. The day seems to go better when you are surrounded by co-workers that smile and are willing to help you anytime. Whether it’s natural or forced, if you find yourself in a negative spiral at work, slow down and smile. You will then recognize whatever activity you are doing becomes enjoyable. So put on a cheesy grin while you are typing a report and you might just find yourself feeling a little bit better. This mood boost can turn your day around though.

Do Not Compare Yourself to Other People

When you feel good about something that you’ve done, don’t allow anyone’s opinions or accomplishments take that away from you. No matter what other people think or do, your self-worth comes from within. Take people’s opinions with a grain of salt and be the master of your own happiness.

Take a break

Take a Break

There is such a thing as a productive break. Working hard is important, but never allowing yourself to take a break can be detrimental to your happiness. Learn the science behind stepping away from your desk. Take a break from your cubicle and get to know your co-workers. Walk down the hall or have a couple buddies to head to lunch with. Not a bad idea though.

Exercise during the Work

Sweat out the day’s worries by working out. Exercising eases stress and helps you boost your mood, productivity and also helps you improve your time management at work. Get your body moving for like 10 minutes during your lunch-break. Your body will thank you.

Give a Helping Hand

Give Someone a Hand

Helping out your colleagues not only makes them happy, but it also makes you happy. Providing social support more likely makes you happy during times of high stress. Making someone else’s day can help you feel a whole lot better. Helping others is sure to have a positive influence on your happiness.

Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude

Sometimes the best way to pull your mind away from negativity is to step back and contemplate what you’re grateful for. Taking time to reflect on the good in your life improves your mood because it reduces the stress. People who work daily to cultivate an attitude of gratitude experience improved mood and physical wellbeing. Take five minutes to show someone at your workplace that you appreciate them.

Upbeat Playlist

Create an Upbeat Playlist

Music can seriously improve your mood and productivity when you are having a bad day. Pull together some of your favorite songs and create a playlist to keep you going through the day. Music sure have a gigantic impact on your mood and work habits.

Reduce Negativity

Back away from discussions revolving around negative aspects of work. Constructive criticism is sometimes good, but excessive negative remarks can significantly drain you. Stay true to yourself. Don’t violate your personal standards in the name of success, it creates feelings of dissatisfaction, regret and demotivation and is a sure-fire path to unhappiness.

There are quite a bunch of little things that can make you happy and productive in the same time during the hours you spend at work. Being happy at work not only boosts your productivity but it also elevates your self-confidence.
