I don’t think I’m being presumptuous when I say that everyone wants to live a fulfilled life. Even though we all go about living our lives in different ways, the common thing most people share is their search for fulfillment.

I know this may sound simplistic but through our search for fulfillment, I believe there are certain things we can do every day that can make our day great.

While I’m not saying doing these 5 things means that you’ll never have problems or things will be perfect, what I am suggesting is that these 5 activities, when done on a regular basis, will improve your quality of life.

Spirituality

1. Spirituality

Spirituality is something that centers who you are or allows you to find peace. Finding something that brings you peace is important because we live in a stressful world.  My recommendation is to find activities that connect to your inner self like giving back to the community, making friends and family a priority or prayer.

Exercise

2. Exercise

During exercise, our bodies naturally release chemicals called endorphins, which makes you feel good. In addition to feeling good during exercise, in general being in better shape helps you sleep better, increases energy and has been known to improve brain function.

Nutrition

3. Nutrition

There is a popular saying that goes “you are what you eat.” Much like exercise, food has the ability to affect our moods, energy levels, and weight management. Eating every few hours should be our eating goals since this will keep our metabolisms running (burns calories) while helping to avoid food cravings that tend to lead to poor eating choices.

Purpose

4. Purpose

At every stage in life, it is important to have a purpose. I am often amazed when I speak to retirees in my programs and they tell me how busy they are. In the most simplistic terms, having a purpose means waking up every day with a reason in mind. My recommendation would be to find activities that allow you to work to your life goals or excite and challenge you.

Rest

5. Rest

We all may need it in different quantities, but rest is important for everyone. The great thing about rest is it can be done in many different ways from hobbies, vacations or watching your favorite TV show. Most importantly, the rest you choose should give back energy and not drain you.

As someone who has the opportunity to speak with seniors on a regular basis, there are certain life trends that I have found for the individuals that seem the most fulfilled. While no two people are the same, I encourage everyone to practice these 5 activities in your attempt to feel great every day.
