Foods Best Avoided

1. Fruit Juice

The vast majority of people are rather surprised when they learn that large amounts of fruit juice are actually harmful to the body. To start with, the majority of the fruit juice products found at your local store are actually pasteurised, which means more of the nutrition’s within it have been stripped away.

When the juices are heated up, this kills much of the chemical makeup of the minerals and vitamins within it, making the juices nothing more than flavoured fructose.

If you drink a glass of fruit juice only occasionally, the effects on your body will be more positive than anything else; however, if you consume it every day, it can adversely affect you, primarily because of the spike in blood glucose.

To put it simply, if you drink an 8-ounce glass of orange juice, it’s the equivalent of you consuming around 4 average sized oranges, in a number of minutes or seconds, depending on how long it takes you to drink the juice. So compare that to how it would take you to eat 4 oranges, and you can see why it can be harmful.

2. Microwave Popcorn

Another top food that you should definitely keep away from is the non-organic genetically modified microwave popcorn, as it is filled with carcinogens, making it not worth the trouble. Even if you were to find some microwave popcorn variety that had some healthy ingredients in it, it still wouldn’t be worth the trouble because of the microwavable bags that they are placed in, which are coated with a chemical (PFOA) that is known to cause cancer.

The butter flavouring that they use on the popcorn usually contains diacetyl, which is known to cause lung disease.

So the next time you feel peckish, consider making some of your own. Stick with the plan, organic variety at your natural food store. Use several teaspoons of organic butter or coconut oil with it.

3. Industrial Hamburgers

Consuming the beef from grass-fed cows on a farm is one thing, but the industrial meat, which comes from factory cattle farms, is a whole new ballgame. Conditions can be said to be, not the best, coupled with growth hormones and an unhealthy diet which may include genetically modified corn, all of which add up to poor beef.

As Rodale News, Michael Pollan once said: “A roast or steak typically comes from a single cow, but processed beef is usually the result of a mix of hundreds of different cows.” This, unfortunately, increases the risk of contamination.

The USDA has found that in over 50 percent of ground beef, there were dangerous levels of bacteria. There’s nothing wrong with eating hamburgers providing they’re not the industrial kind.

4. Table Salt

Table salt has to make the list of foods best avoided. I think, a considerable amount of people are aware of hypertension (at least), caused by consuming large amounts of salt. Despite this, the vast majority of restaurants still use it in their foods.

Table salt is originally produced from sea salt, and then it is refined into the table salt that people consume, so it starts off real then is converted into something artificial. Manufacturers adopt a number of different ways in order to strip the salt of all its minerals, and then they apply additives in order to dry it and then heat it to 1,200 degrees temperatures.

Because the minerals within the salt are destroyed, the iodine (which is naturally occurring) is then replaced by potassium iodide, in fairly large amounts. Dextrose is then used to stabilise the salt, which turns it purple, finally, bleach is applied to turn it white.

5. Soybeans Products

Regardless of your feelings towards genetically modified foods, avoiding these kinds of foods can be rather difficult. There are some that say over 70% of all the foods you find in your grocery store are modified in some way or another. Corn and soybeans are amongst the top of that list; with much of that genetically modified corn going to livestock feed.

Soybeans, however, are in a number of different products that we regularly consume. Over 90% of all the soybeans grown in the USA are said to be modified, which means, if you want to avoid GM foods, then avoid products that are labelled with soybean oil, soy milk, soy protein, soy sauce, basically all things soy.
